Glad House: (Giving Life A Dream)
Providing positive interventions to break the cycle of substance abuse.
Research showed the most impact could be made working with both the children and their addicted parents. Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church got behind the idea. In 1998, Glad House opened its doors as a residential program providing holistic intensive treatment for children whose parents were in drug/alcohol treatment. |
 |
Today, we provide a comprehensive After School/Summer Program for children 5 through 11 and their families, and a long term support and follow-up program, Glad Hands Club.
Why it Works
Glad House is unique in addressing the whole child. Most of the children referred to us have a mental health diagnosis, which we treat through individual, group and family counseling provided by licensed therapists.
We also offer evidence-based Best Practice programs that provide behavior modification, prevention education (to prevent the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs), parenting education, nourishing meals and snacks, tutoring, transportation to and from Glad House, and long-term follow-up -- all free of charge. |

|
Through this intensive intervention, Glad House children become better students with stronger coping skills, who behave more appropriately and remain alcohol, tobacco and drug free. Their parents / caregivers become more effective, better equipped to face the challenges of living clean sober lives long-term.
