Clean your hands. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water is not an option.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
Cover your mouth and nose. Cover your cough or sneeze with tissue, then discard the tissue properly. If a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your elbow.
Avoid close contact. Avoid exposure to infected individuals or people who are sick. The general rule to follow is to stay 6 feet away or more from someone who is sick.
Stay home when you are sick. Monitor for fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
Practice other good health habits. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food. And get your flu shot – it’s not too late!
