Testimonials of GLAD House Staff:

Leadership

1. "I came to GH because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children and families impacted by the opioid epidemic through a unique, quality program. I am lucky to work at a place that provides much needed intensive services to one of our most vulnerable populations- children of addicted parents.  GH provides an excellent, supportive learning environment for bachelor’s and master’s level students.  We provide a team atmosphere with daily debrief meetings and all staff also receive a training budget.

GH has a passionate, dedicated staff and board of directors who put the needs of the GH children and families first to help families live sober, healthy lives.  Working collectively with our community we are able to support families in breaking the intergenerational cycle of addiction."

2.  "I feel connected to the agency’s mission and goals. The environment at GLAD House is warm and welcoming. I think GLAD House is helping me to meet my career goals.  For example, my supervisor and colleagues encourage me to work towards my independent licensure.  I have learned useful management skills and to collaborate with other community systems.  I have also gained confidence in running a program. I enjoy having flexibility in my schedule during non-program hours for self-care.  GLAD House also has generous paid time off for benefits eligible employees. I also appreciate that I am not required to work weekends and to be on-call.  It is also important to me that GLAD House provides decent medical benefits that also include family members."

Direct Service Staff

1. "I came to GH because I wanted to work in a helping role with children.  The unique setting and programming allows for more unstructured time, such as meals and social recreation, which also enhances the kids’ social skills and strengthens relationships between staff and the children.  Since the kids come to GLAD House multiple days, it allows me to establish rapport more easily with them and to observe their interactions with various individuals and in different situations.

I receive weekly clinical supervision from an independent licensed social worker, so that I am able to obtain my independent licensure and increase my professional development.  The annual training budget also enables me to attend various trainings and pay for my license every two years.

I like the flexible schedule which allows me to work from home during non-program hours.  The GLAD House atmosphere is relaxed and I am able to interact with the kids next door at the park and participate in fun activities, such as art projects, the Talent Show, the summer field trips, and celebrate holidays with the kids."

2. "As a student, the hours are perfect. My classes and extracurriculars can be fit in around the after-school program hours. My position offers opportunities to both learn about trauma-informed care and actually apply that knowledge is was vital for my education.

GH has given me experience that will absolutely help me obtain my career goals. Leading groups with clients of different backgrounds and needs, receiving training from experienced individuals in the field, and receiving consistent feedback from supervisors have contributed greatly to my pursuit of mental health counseling. With GH under my belt, I’ve been able to apply for further education with a higher level of knowledge and confidence.

My favorite things about working at GH are building therapeutic and supportive relationships with the clients and working closely with supervisors. Developing trust with the clients and watching them make progress toward their individual goals is very rewarding and definitely one of the best parts of the job."
