Who We Are

Our Mission

The mission of GLAD House is providing a safe and therapeutic community to empower families to break the cycle of addiction.

Our Vision

Children and Families living together to their fullest potential free from addiction.

Breaking the Cycle of Addiction

GLAD House is a certified mental health and alcohol and drug prevention agency that works with high-risk youth who have been impacted emotionally and behaviorally by a family member with an addiction.

Children of abusers are:

  • 3-4 times more likely than others to become addicted to alcohol and drugs themselves

  • More likely than their peers to have learning disabilities, be truant, repeat more grades, transfer schools and be expelled

  • 6 times more likely to witness spousal abuse than other children

  • More likely to develop stress-related health problems, anxiety, depression or eating disorders

At GLAD House, we believe those statistics are unacceptable, and they can be changed. Our comprehensive interventions help children learn through individual and group treatment to cope with, and ultimately move beyond, this destructive family pattern. They learn to manage their impulses, anger and behavior so that they can define and achieve their goals.

GLAD House’s holistic approach combines mental health services, substance abuse and violence prevention programs, academic assistance, cultural enrichment and support and guidance for high-risk children and their families.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Addiction knows no boundaries; neither does GLAD House. Addiction impacts people across all races, ethnicities, gender identities, religions, nationalities, sexual orientations, ability levels, ages, socioeconomic backgrounds and more. GLAD House’s commitment is to improve the lives of ALL children and families by breaking the cycle of addiction. We work to foster a culture that honors each other’s unique differences and creates psychological safety and belonging so children and families can thrive.

Dreaming for Two Decades

We exist to help children reach their full potential and show them they can accomplish great things in life. The dream is that children:

  • Demonstrate acceptable behavior at home, in school and in the community

  • Stay in school

  • Live alcohol, tobacco and drug-free lives.
